Jaisalmer is a city in Rajasthan and is often called the "The Golden City" because of the buildings in the old town are made with yellow sandstone. Jaisalmer lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and has a population of about 78,000. Its strategic position along the camel routes of trading Indian and Asian merchants once made it into a prosperous oasis. Today, Jaisalmer is a popular tourist destination for it's magical medieval fortress and town with the beautiful stone-carved buildings everywhere.
