Italy: Garda Lake
"Those who are sensitive to all that it´s sublime.
Are invited to look at the map of Lake Garda.
The shores of this lake with it´s beautiful forests and clam waters
constitute perhaps the most beautiful land scape in the world."
--Stendhal
One of the most-visited natural tourist attractions in Italy is the Garda Lake.
With it´s crystalline waters and typically mediterranean vegetation it is Italy's largest
lake (52 km long). It´s maximum depth is about 346 meters and it´s surface is 370 sqKm.
Within a unique picturesque setting you will discover a lot of small towns utterly
original in their make-up as well as in their wealth of historical and artistic
expression. Small, lovely towns such as Sirmione, Lazise, Bardolino or Malcesine
(to mention only a few of it) - each with it´s own villas, castle, or historic
walls - offer contributions to the history of Venetian and Italian art.
Also worth a visit are the inland areas and surrounding hills, where
world-famous wines and olive oil are produced. The region is attractive not only in
summer, as a matter of fact, visitors in the spring or fall may be glad to miss
the summer crowds!
