Russia: St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg is the second largest city of Russia and lies in the north of the country. It is often called one of the most magnificent cities in the world. It is also often called "Venice of the North" because of the huge number of canals, islands and bridges. In fact it is the city with the greatest number of bridges in the world. But the city is not a copy of Venice, it has its own flair. The cultural highlights are without end and every church, palace or museum is extraordinary and worth visiting.
