Thailand: North Thailand

The north of Thailand is the most exciting region of the country. Definitely the most popular tourist destination in the north is Chiang Mai, called "The Rose of the North". The city possesses enough attractions to keep most people busy for at least a few days and the rest of the province is quite beautiful. The city of Chiang Mai for example has over 36 active temples. Many of them are very impressive and well worth a visit. The most beautiful of them, the Wat Doi Suthep, is one of the most famous Buddhis shrines in Thailand.

But there are a plenty of other interesting things. The most important one are the people that inhabit the hills of Northern Thailand. Living a life apart from the lowland Thais, these people seem trapped in a time warp streching back to the middle ages. And it can be a new and fantastic experience to visit them, and see a completely different side of life.
